The Arabian Codes for Sustainability "Egypt"

Sustainability is essential for the continuance of a cycle to occur and for preserving natural resources. Without environmental requirements, material damages occur with building, construction, manufacturing, extraction, and other works. These include resource depletion, climate changes, global warming, and more.

The Green Pyramids Rating System (GPRS) is currently used, and it works on the classification of green buildings by the Egyptian Green Building Council.

The development of a national system for the classification of green buildings called the Green Pyramids Rating System (GPRS), is approved. It is an immediate procedure to activate the Council's role. The Council was assigned to establish the classification system frame. A local committee was formed for reviewing and finally approving the green building classification system.

Recognizing a unique environmental system, in addition to considering the industrial and social challenges lead to the need for a classification system that helps in defining the role of "the Egyptian green building" in achieving this goal. The classification system will be based on the Egyptian "BEECS" laws and on the incorporation of methodologies and techniques that proved successful in programs from the United States, Europe, Asia, South America, and the Middle East.

The initial response from the construction industry to establish a green building classification system and grant permits for green building have been very positive for several reasons such as the development of a logical and valuable scores system that would encourage compliance and establish efficiency.

The logo design is simply indicative. The green pyramid expresses the largest green building in the world, which is the Egyptian historical pyramid. The green lotus flower expresses the connection of this ancient plant with the local environment. The circular green outer frame expresses focusing on the goal of the Egyptian Council for Green Building, which is maintaining environmental balance and its sustainability, and on that, the green building philosophy is based on and fixed fact, which is that after the construction of the building, it becomes an integral part of the surrounding environment.

According to the Egyptian classification system for green architecture, there are three levels to obtaining the green building certification:

The "silver pyramid" level, is the lowest level permitted for licensing the building as a green building.

The "golden pyramid" level, is the medium level required for licensing the building as a green building.

The "green pyramid" level, is the highest level for licensing the building as a green building.

Unlike other international rating systems, the highest level of certification is called "green" instead of platinum. The Egyptian Green Building Counsel develops a complete building approach for sustainability by recognizing the performance in seven main areas as follows:

Sustainable development sites

Water consumption rationalization

Energy using efficiency and the environment

Selection of building system and materials

Indoor environment quality

Design and innovation process

Solid waste recycling

This code is characterized by a rarely found in international codes features, which is giving a score for the BIM model.

It gives two scores on (Building Information Modeling) BIM model,

Three scores for applying sustainability through (Building Information Modeling) BIM model

And four scores for applying building management through (the Building Information Modeling) BIM model.
